ABOUT US

The NorCal Jade Company is rooted in integrity and harmony with the ocean.  We've been jade hunting in Monterey County for more than 20 years.  It's as integral to our existence as eating and breathing.  Only surfing, food, and family come before jade hunting on our must-do list of priorities.

We are a clan of watermen.  We are surfers, fishermen, free divers, and scuba divers.  We should have been born with gills.  We have adapted our lifestyle to the ebb and flow of the tide.  Imagine driving miles of twisting highway through torrential rains over thousand-foot cliffs, then burrowing through walls of poison oak down vertical hillsides, and finally, the elation of finding that piece of a lifetime, a 144-pound bright blue gemstone on a remote, desolate beach.  It's still possible, even today.

On the beach or on the bottom of the ocean, jade hunting is the ultimate escape, allowing us to leave the daily grind for a moment... when you are able to free your mind of the clutter, a glowing stone meets your eye.  It's a rare gift indeed.

Each piece of Big Sur jade is unique.  It comes in many different flavors, from Vulcan to blue-green, from midnight to Kelly green.  Then there's "the ice" and  "the steel".  And the shapes are just as diverse.  There are bricks and slicks, knots and lenses, bars and fingers.  My good friend Mike recalled a dream he had about a piece he would find, "a blue-green bar the size and shape of a human leg."  He hasn't found it yet, but you never know...

We believe our ocean-polished nephrite is as unique and beautiful as jades anywhere in the world.  We hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do.

I'd like to thank the following people for their encouragement and for making this dream possible:  James Frangella, David Shaules, Michael Bauer, Tim Hall, Luke Curtice, and of course, Haven and Riley.
